Dance Teacher Kimberley Performing Arts Centre
Marlyn was born and spent her childhood years living on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
I initially danced with a local dance school until in 1980 I joined the Frances Paterson School of Dancing where I was very fortunate to be included in competition work, attending competitions and championships all over the UK with many successes.
With the help and encouragement of Frances I was able to successfully take SDTA Associate and Member teaching exams and finally the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing Adjudicator exam. I recently adjudicated the World Highland Dance Championships held in Dunoon, Scotland – a huge honour.
Since moving to North Lincolnshire in 1990 I have been privileged to teach many children the art of Highland Dancing thus keeping my Scottish heritage alive!
Many of my dancers have achieved Championship titles in competitions and have also gone on to gain their own teaching qualifications.
I was lucky enough to have the support of the Scunthorpe Pipe Band for many years where dancers I taught were able to join the band on their many public engagements. We continue to support the Pipe Band when called upon.
Currently I am teaching Highland at Kimberley Performing Arts Centre where I have students ranging in age from 4 – 30 years+. I have a wide variety of students – some who want to compete and take exams, some who wish to learn for recreational purposes only and some returning adults who wish to keep fit!
I like to think we all have fun, keep fit and share our mutual love of dance. Everyone is welcome!
